Best Practices
- Security – setting up the security for F.A.S.T. is recommended before performing any further setup steps. A user's security should have the read and write capabilities turned on, at a minimum, for each module where they should have access to the archives.
F.A.S.T. Setup
- System Administration → F.A.S.T. / Archive → Setup
- The following headings below contain information regarding each submenu option found in the Setup submenu.
Archive Types
- The types of documents which can be archived. Most archived documents are in pdf format. Default archive types are automatically set up by RDA. Extra archive types are not usually added; more for informational purposes only.
Archive Classes
- A list of classes for grouping and organizing an archive or archives. The list contains classes that are defaulted automatically by RDA. Extra classes can be added if needed. To add a class, follow the steps below:
- System Administration → F.A.S.T. / Archive → Setup → Archive Classes
- Click the Add button.
- Type in the next available class number, the name of the class being added and a short description of the class.
- Once all fields are populated, click Save.
Archive Subjects
- Another way of grouping and organizing archives. The list contains subjects that are defaulted automatically by RDA. Extra subjects can be added if needed. To add a subject, follow the steps below:
- System Administration → F.A.S.T. / Archive → Setup → Archive Subjects
- Click the Add button.
- Type in the subject, the name of the title being added and a short description of the subject.
- Once all fields are populated, click Save.
Archive Viewing Programs
- The browse list contains different formats/programs in which an archive can be viewed; most commonly used program is Adobe Acrobat Reader for pdf files
Purge Archives
- Documents that are archived which are incorrect, or no longer need to be stored, can be purged (deleted) using this process.
- Documents can be purged in mass or one at a time. The RANGE CRITERIA allows you to purge documents based on class, subject, date entered, etc.
- Click the Write to Database button to purge. No report will generate.
- NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you range carefully. Ranging incorrectly may cause certain important documents or all documents to be purged.
Generic Setup Variables
- System Administration → F.A.S.T. / Archive → Setup → Generic Setup Variables
- The following table will explain the Generic Setup Variables in more detail.
