Steps for Registering to Electronically file W2s 


Before getting started, please note Your BSO User ID and password is no longer used to access BSO employer services. You must have a Social Security Online account, Login.gov, or ID.me credential to gain access to the BSO application. 

Please note that you do NOT need to create a new Login.gov or ID.me credential specifically for SSA purposes. You can use your existing Login.gov or ID.me credentials to log into SSA services too. 

If you do not have a Social Security online account, a Login.gov, or ID.me credential, you will need to create one. Select "Create account" in the "Employers" box. 


1. Register with Social Security Administration’s Online (SSA Online) 

  • Go to https://www.ssa.gov/bso/bsowelcome.htm 
  • Go to “Employers” box, Click Log in 
  • Sign In with Login.gov, Id.me, or Social Security Username 
  • Click through I Accept as prompted 
  • Provide your personal information. The account will belong to you, not to your employer. 
  • Create a Password 
  • Review and Submit 
  • Save you User ID and Password 


2. Input your User Id and Password in RDA software 

  • HR 
  • Payroll W2 Processing 
  • Print/File 
  • Electronic File 
  • Use the arrow key to pull up the Employer ID 
  • In the bottom row of text fields, enter your SSA Online User ID and Password 
  • Click Save 


3. Request New Services to allow the ability to submit W2s 

  • Go to Social Security (ssa.gov) and Sign In 
  • On the left-hand menu, under Manage Services, select Request New Services 
  • Select the first option SSA Services Suite for Employers 
  • Click Next 
  • Click the link to Add Employer Information to Continue 
  • Click I Accept 
  • Enter Employer Information 
  • Most will be selecting the first item in the list of employee types 
  • Click Submit 
  • Process takes 2 weeks to complete (will show as pending)
